On behalf of the Victorian Government, I’d like to welcome you to Heyfield for the 2022 The Middle of Everywhere Gippsland Rally.
We’re proud to support this event through our Significant Sporting Events Program, which helps organisations to deliver national, international, or regionally significant events.
This is the first time an Australian Rally Championship race has been held in Central Gippsland. It also marks the 500th event secured by our program since December 2014.
Of those 500 events, almost half have been held in regional Victoria, boosting local jobs and economies, and showcasing our regions.
And thanks to the government’s support, The Middle of Everywhere Gippsland Rally has been locked into the championship series for three years.
Investing in significant sporting events like this is a win for locals as well as for sporting fans.
With around 120 competitors, 200 support staff and coaches, and thousands of spectators coming to Heyfield, it will be a boom to the town and surrounding region.
When athletes, supporters and fans come to town the benefits are felt right across the community, from accommodation and hospitality to tourism and retail, increasing revenue and supporting jobs.
The rally is also being broadcast live across Australia and New Zealand – showing off our beautiful mountain country to a huge audience and encouraging future tourism.
Motorsport is big business for Victoria contributing more than $800 million to our economy – that’s another reason we’re proud to support this event.
